gashadokuro

Gashadokuro (がしゃどくろ / 餓者髑髏), which translates to "starving skeleton" or "rattling skeleton," is a terrifying mythical creature from Japanese folklore. It manifests as a giant skeleton standing roughly 10 to 15 meters (33 to 50 feet) tall.

Likely origins:

Classic 19th-century ukiyo-e woodblock prints, most notably Utagawa Kuniyoshi's famous 1844 artwork, Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre, pictured above.
